My Daily Products Index - Personal Care

My Daily Products Index - Personal Care

After the success and requests of my Everyday Carry (EDC) I have wanted to make an index of the products I use daily – while some of them classed as zero waste, others, are not quite there. Sadly, I am yet to find an Aloe Vera gel that is not packed in plastic; sometimes the ideal solution isn’t readily available, so we seek the next best thing. Personally, I do not feel I use many cosmetics, though you may disagree, however, my index may support your search if you are looking to change or enhance what you currently have. I plan to update this post gradually if I start using new products, or stop, so there is also a place to look for recommendations.

Cosmetics

Deodorant

Wild Deodorant – Wild is an alternative to conventional aerosols with refillable compostable cartridges. Wild deodorant can last between one and two months, depending on how many swipes you use and the frequency of application, their deodorant comes in a range of different scents. I did a deeper dive into Wild here.

Shampoo

Little Soap Company Shampoo Bar – The Little Soap Company are one of many companies offering an alternative to liquid shampoo and body wash. I have used this companies soap for the past few years and I keep coming back. Some Little Soap Companies soap bars have been accredited, and they are vegan.

Body Bar

Friendly Soap Company Sandalwood & Patchouli Natural Soap – Alongside this bar, I have tried the cedarwood soap bar by the same company. Friendly Soap Company is a best-rated brand by The Ethical Consumer, with affordability in mind. While I am yet to find these on the high-street it is possible to bulk buy the bars, saving you money and shipping costs. Unlike some soap brands, Friendly Soap avoids any palm oil, which might be a selling point for some.

Exfoliator

Little Soap Company Body Scrub Bar – I often can struggle with dry skin, leading me to try different brands. Before this product, all of them were in plastic tubes, however this body scrub is formed into a bar. Due to my forgetfulness I typically forget to exfoliate, so this bar is rather old, despite its age, after using the scrub it decreases the age of my skin when you feel it.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Pura Aloe Vera Skin Gel – Due to having sensitive skin which can cause irritation, I always keep a tube of aloe vera in my draw. Sadly, I have been unable to source a plastic free alternative, but this company uses organic Aloe, and I use a tube a year at a maximum, which makes me feel less guilty.

Toothbrush

Truthbrush (Storm Grey Medium) – Truthbrush claim to be Britain's only toothbrush company to be awarded the B Corporation toothbrush company. Truthbrush offers two bristle types, soft and medium, alongside a range of coloured bases. Each brush receives a coat of plant-based oil to give it a beautifully smooth and water-resistant finish. The brushes are individually wrapped in tissue paper and inserted into a cardboard tube. While most bamboo is sourced from China, the company offsets the emissions for the journey to your door.

Toothpaste

Georganics Toothpaste Tablets – Georganics produce a wide range of oral care products in tablet form, paste, or power. Personally, I use their toothpaste tablets because the amount you need is predetermined. You can refill their products into a smaller container that they sell, or any jar you own. While I like Spearmint, they have four other options to choose from. Their range of products is organic, vegan, cruelty-free and made in the UK.

Mouthwash

Georganics Mouthwash Tablets – I also use Georganics mouthwash for the same reasons above. The small tablets are easy to transport when you are travelling on holiday. I often decant the tablets into small containers to avoid breaking the glass containers they sell. As with the toothpaste tablets, the mouthwash can be refilled. The refills arrive in paper pouches which can be recycled or composted.

Floss

Georganics Dental Floss – I regularly forget to floss (apologies if you happen to be a dentist), so this floss has lasted ages. Floss usually is made from thin plastic, which gives floss its strength. Despite Georganics not using a plastic formula, it is very durable. Once you have bought the glass, you can refill the product easily. The lid has an opening which allows you to pull the floss out and rip it to your desired length.

Moisturiser

Rugged Nature Moisturiser – Many moisturisers are packaged into plastic rubes, but Rugged Nature (the newest item to my personal care routine) does not. Rugged Nature instead packages this moisturiser into a tin. Simply open the lid with a coin, and carefully push the lid back on to preserve their product. Despite only containing six ingredients, it smells really nice and doesn't feel greasy.
