Our quarterly blog outlines a selection of upcoming environmental consciousness awareness days celebrated in both the UK and around the globe. This time we are looking at April to June, which raises awareness of many animals such as otters, chickens, and crows.

The Big River Watch, organised by The Rivers Trust, invites you to participate in a simple citizen science activity twice a year, in April and September. Data helps to build a picture of river health across the UK and Ireland.

Crow & Raven Appreciation Day – 27th April 2025

Crow and Raven Appreciation Day is celebrated on the 27th of April to raise awareness of these intelligent and often misunderstood birds.

No Mow May – 3rd May 2025

No Mow May is an annual event run by the environmental charity Plantlife that encourages people to lock up their lawnmowers on May 1. The impact of letting your lawn grow long for the month means that smaller plants like clover, daisies, dandelions, self-heal and clover will get a chance to flower and give pollinating insects a head start.

International Leopard Day – 3rd May 2025

World Otter Day highlights conservation efforts to safeguard their habitats, despite facing challenges such as habitat degradation and pollution.

Every Flower Counts – 31st May 2025

Plantlife citizen science activity Every Flower Counts provides a snapshot health check of our lawns at the end of No Mow May. Plant life is interested in determining the most prevalent flowers on lawns, so they can determine how much nectar they are producing and how their nectar scores have changed from previous years.
